Budget 2023: Special security arrangements in Parliament 10.Nov.2022

The entire Parliament will be tested tomorrow

Speaker Mahinda Yaba Abeywardena announced in Parliament today (10) that special security arrangements have been made as in previous years in view of the budget speech for 2023 being presented by the Minister of Finance on Monday, November 14th.

For this, the entire building of Parliament, including members' lounges and wardrobes, will be subjected to security checks tomorrow.

Public access will be limited to foreign diplomats on the 14th, when the budget will be tabled in Parliament. The Parliamentary car park will be closed on the day and the vehicles of the visiting members will be sent to the appropriate car park. The Speaker requested that the members visiting Parliament on that day should come with their own drivers as much as possible.

In his announcement, the Speaker also informed that if the Members of Parliament are driving their own vehicles, the Parliament staff has been deployed near the entrance of the members to send them to the parking bays.

Also, on that day, the traffic police and the police from the nearest police station will take action regarding the traffic arrangements. The Speaker also announced that he expects the cooperation of all Members of Parliament for the security arrangements mentioned above.
